The Brazilian newspaper O Globo published this Sunday December 16,2012 an article about the research on incentives to public managers, which won the first place in the Brazilian Treasury Secretariat Public Finance Award this December.

The article “A Emenda Constitucional dos Precatórios: Histórico, Incentivos e Leilões de Deságio”,  on court-ordered debt payments in Brazil, has been published at Estudos Econômicos. It is the result of collaborative work with Fernando Meneguin from the Brazilian Senate.

Estudos Econômicos is a top-ranked academic journal in Economic Theory and Applications in Brazil, created in 1971 and published four times a year by the Department of Economics of the School of Economics, Business and Accounting of the University of Sao Paulo.

I will present a seminar at the Philosophy department this Friday on Rationality in Game Theory, at 4pm. The address is:

Treasury Secretariat 2012 Prize Award Ceremony on Dec. 4, 2012

The Award Ceremony for the 17th Treasury Secretariat Prize took place on December 4, 2012 at ESAF’s “Salão Nobre I”, located at Rodovia DF-001 km 27,4 Setor de Habitações Individuais Sul – Lago Sul, Brasília-DF.

The general interest article “Como Tornar a Gestão Pública Mais Eeficiente?” was published last week in the Economics blog “Brasil Economia e Governo”.

The article, in Portuguese, discusses the incentives faced by public managers and how they react to them. It is a short explanation of the research article “O Papel das Instituições nos Incentivos para a Gestão Pública” which won the first prize at the Brazilian National Secretariat Public Finance Prize last week.

Brasil Economia e Governo is an economics and government blog that was selected the best economics & finance blog in Brazil in 2011 according to Top Blog. Its goal it to offer didactic analyses of economic questions that are highly relevant to Brazilian development, most especially those that depend on the government action.

The article “Um Modelo Econômico para a Responsabilidade Civil na Defesa do Consumidor” (“An Economic Model for Torts in Consumer Protection Policy”), co-authored by Fernando Meneguin (Brazilian Federal Senate) and myself, is available at the Berkeley Program in Law and Economics page on University of California’s eScholarship.

The article won the Robert D. Cooter ALACDE Award for Scholarship in Law and Economics last June in Lima, Peru.

Fernando Meneguin (Brazilian Federal Senate and CIEF) and I just received the news that our article “O Papel das Instituições nos Incentivos para a Gestão Pública” was awarded the Brazilian Treasury Secretariat Public Finance Award – 2012 in the category “Special Topics in Public Finance”.

O Programa de Seminários de Pesquisa CIEF/CERME/LAPCIPP/MESP teve início na quarta-feira passada com a sala lotada. Este semestre o programa homenageia os 40 anos de dedicação do prof. Charles Mueller à UnB.

O seminário apresentado pelo professor Charles Mueller contou com a presença do Reitor eleito da UnB, Prof. Dr. Ivan Camargo, entre outros participantes ilustres, que gentilemente aceitou encerrar oficialmente o evento antes do coquetel de confraternização.
