Mauricio Bugarin's Blog

The Journal Perspectives on Politics, published by the American Political Science Association just published  in its second issue of volume 12 (June 2014) a comparative review of the book The Great Gap: Inequality and the Politics of Redistribution in Latin America, in which Adriana Portugal (Tribunal de Contas do Distrito Federal), Sergio Sakurai (FEA-USP/Ribeirão Preto) and myself have a chapter.

The book analyses the delicate balance between politics and inequality in Latin America.

The review was written by Prof. Benjamin Goldfrank from Seton Hall University.

In his review, prof. Goldfrank also discusses prof. Stephen Klaplan’s book “Globalization and Austerity Politics in Latin America”. I recently published a review on that same book.

The article “The Robustness of Exclusion in Multi-dimensional Screening” has been accepted on September, 2014 for publication at the Journal of Mathematical Economics.

The article “Rotatividade nos Cargos de Confiança da Administração Federal Brasileira (1999-2012) – Resultados Preliminares”  co-authored with Felix Lopes (IPEA) and Karina Bugarin (EPRG) has been published at the Boletim de Análise Político-Institucional, 5, 55-64.

Call for Paper Proposals for the 2nd Annual Meeting of the Economics and Politics Research Group (EPRG)

In Honor of Marilda Sotomayor on her 70^th Birthday

Dear members and friends of the Economics and Politics Research Group (EPRG), it is with great pleasure that we would like to invite you to submit paper proposals for our Second Annual Meeting to be held on June 07, 2014 at the University of Brasilia. This second Annual Meeting honors professor Marilda Sotomayor on the occasion of her 70^th Birthday.

We are looking for papers that cut across the fields of political science, economics, law and sociology. Papers from other disciplines of the social sciences relating politics and economics are very welcome.

Paper proposals should include a title and a summary of about 250 words. Proposals should be sent to the following email eprg@gmail.com with a copy to bugarin.mauricio@gmail.com and to turgeon007@gmail.com no later than May 21. Decisions about paper acceptance will be sent on May 28.

Estimados membros e amigos do EPRG, temos o prazer de convidá-los a submeter suas pesquisas para apresentação no Segundo Encontro Anual do Economics and Politics Research Group, a ser realizado na Universidade de Brasília no sábado, dia 7 de junho de 2014. Este encontro homenageará a professora Marilda Sotomayor, por ocasião de seu 70^o. aniversário.
